Our history

The history of Montorian football starts at the end of the 1940s when the local team, the “U.S. Olmo”, participates in the first 7-a-side football tournaments. Montorio”, up to the “Libertas”. In the 1960s and in the first half of the 1970s, the protagonist of Montorian football was "Libertas Valsquaranto" which obtained its first good results in the 11-a-side football championship of the Third Category and finished fourth in the 1974/75 season.

To see the name "Montorio" appear in a club participating in an 11-a-side football tournament, we had to wait for 1975 when, with the construction of the new football field, the "A.C. Montorio” which takes over from “Libertas”. third category championship. The following year (1976/77 season) the first promotion to the Second Category arrived. 1977 was a very important year because, in addition to the promotion, a football tournament was started on the parish field. The month-long tournament was organized for "first kicks" with the aim of forming the first youth teams of the club by attracting youngsters who were approaching football for the first time. From the 1977/78 season, in fact, the youth activity of the "A.C. Montorio” with the formation of the categories chicks, rookies and pupils of seven. In the same season, the First team brilliantly managed to maintain the category, finishing in third place and coming close to being promoted to the First team. The following seasons were also characterized by good results, including the first place in the standings of the very young provincials coached by Eraldo Orlandi. In the 1980/81 Second Category championship, Montorio manages to grab the leaders Juventina Poiano on the last day, forcing her into a play-off for promotion to the First Category. Unfortunately the decisive match ends with a defeat for the Montoriese team, who fell 2 a l in extra time. However, the club requests a repechage and obtains the promotion. The result obtained is very important and represents the highest level reached up to then by the Montorian team.

The "A.C. Montorio” managed to keep the category until the 1982/83 championship. In the   seasons  succesive  a  dual  downgrade  forces  i  white-green  starting from the Third Category. The satisfactions were not long in coming and at the end of the 1986/87 championship the club was able to celebrate the conquest of the title of "Provincial Under 23 Champion" and the return to the Second Category. In the following championships the “A.C. Montorio” recorded high-ranking results: 3rd place in the 1987/88 season, 4th in the 1988/89 season, championship victory and promotion to the First Category in the 1989/90 season. The permanence at this level lasts until the relegation to Second Category in 1992/93.

The 1990s were characterized by relegation to Terza, quick returns to Second and hard-fought salvations. In the 1997/98 season, "Olimpia Montorio" concluded the Second Category championship occupying the third from bottom position and was therefore forced into the safety play-offs which ended with relegation. The descent into the third category coincides with the transformation of the company from "Olimpia Montorio" to "Nuova Montorio".

The 1998/99 season marks the immediate return to the Second Category and the beginning of a series of good results in the following seasons. The "Nuova Montorio" ranks second in the 2001/02 championship and enters the promotion play-offs. However, the beginning of the new millennium coincided with the most difficult moment in the corporate history of Montorian football. Economic difficulties prevail over sporting merits and the "Nuova Montorio" club, submerged in debt and with only three teams (First team and two youth teams maintained by the boys' parents) in the season  2005/06 is forced into bankruptcy.

Just when everything seems to be coming to an end, the “A.S.D. Progetto Per Gioco" takes over the youth sector from the moribund "Nuova Montorio" and an agreement is born with new partners that gives life to the company “Montorio Calcio A.S.D.”. In 2006 the new club started from scratch, took on the debts left by the old owners and began a project aimed at rebuilding the youth sector and creating a first team capable of quickly returning to the second category. The corporate management is entrusted to a board made up of people who are passionate and deeply attached to the colors of Montorio. The results were not long in coming: after a season of adjustment in the 2007/08 Third Category championship, Montorio obtained fifth place and therefore the right to participate in the "Promotion Playoffs". After the daring results of the semi-finals won against  Valtramigna  Cazzano (3-l defeat at home and 3-W victory away), the dreams of promotion vanish in the final in Lugo at the "lottery" of penalties. However, the promotion is postponed for only one year. In the 2008/09 season comes the first great result for the new ownership: Orazio "Ciacio" Barana, luxury coach for the Third Category, leads his boys to the playoffs thanks to the 4th position conquered in the regular season. "Montorio Calcio" is promoted to Second Category after defeating Croz Zai and Rizza Deportivo. The following year, the Montorian team managed to obtain the goal of salvation well in advance and even came close to qualifying for the "Promotion Playoffs". The company leaves nothing to chance and every year builds teams capable of maintaining the category without risk, holding high-ranking positions throughout the season. Since 2011, the first team has been passionately  led by coach Antonio Ferronato.

In a few years the new ownership has managed to achieve extraordinary results even at a youth level.  The junior team  provincial, coached by Ferdinando "Nando" Fanini and Arturo Corsi, has in fact won the championship in its group for two consecutive seasons (2010/11 - 2011/12) also managing to win the title of "Junior Provincial Champion" in 2012 . This important result gave the right to the young people of Montorio to participate, in the current season, in the regional junior championship, which has never been played before in the history of Montorio football. The 2011/12 football season saw another important youth success: coach Francesco Fasani's provincial students won the provincial championship, missing even the Finals by a whisker.

The insiders, who in 2006 gave birth to the courageous company with enthusiasm and commitment, could never have foreseen such a rapid growth of the company.  At the start  of its history, Montorio Calcio  it had 60 members and only one formation militant in the Third Category. Today, the club has 310 members, a qualified football school, seven youth teams - two of which are protagonists of the regional championship - and an ambitious first team that plays in the second category. "The icing on the cake" was the construction of a structure equipped with a bar, kitchen, offices and room for meetings, refreshments and birthday parties inside the sports facility.
